Can't remember. Too long ago.
Actually Bill was on beta blockers for a heart complint and I think he had to drink the lager to combat a side effect. Not too sure perhaps someone out there knows more.

If memory serves me correctly, I think he took beta blockers for a shaking arm but they were suddenly banned by the WPBSA threatening an effective end to his career. Drinking large quantities of lager was another thing that helped alleviate the problem. Or something.
I recently decided to stop drinking alcohol on match nights, and too an extent, during practice as well. My game has improved I have to say. I feel more focussed.
Big Bill used to drink 10 pints before every match and average a pint a frame during it. Used to be a problem when he was playing a morning game as he'd have to get up at 6am to start "fueling up" ready for the game.
