  • Ball On as Free Ball

Can the ball on be nominated as free ball, and if potted does it get re-spotted?

  • #2
No. If you refuse a free ball and just play the ball on as per normal, then it is just usual rules, so if potted it stays down

Yes, the ball on never ceases to be the ball on and can always be legally potted. If potted, though, a ball on is never respotted if taken as a free ball.

A couple of points to remember though, in relation to free balls. If, say yellow is on, and you nominate black, and pot both yellow and black in that stroke, you will only score two points. The black is spotted and the yellow stays down.

Also, despite my statement in the first paragraph, if you nominate a ball other than the ball on as your free ball, that is the ball which must be struck first. So again, if yellow is the ball on and you nominate black, you MUST first hit the black even though you can legally pot the yellow.

Of course it is. This is the definition of a free ball:

          s2 13. Free Ball
A free ball is a ball which the striker nominates as the ball on when snookered after a foul (see Section 3 Rule 12).

It doesn't matter whether the ball he nominates was already on.
