  • Snooker with FREE ball

I played a game last night and my opponent picked a free ball and then miscued, hit the free ball and snookered me behind it. I know you can't do this (foul shot) but he said that because he still hit the free ball that it wasn't 4 points away. I said that a foul shot has a minimum of 4 points, but he said that all I could do was make him shoot again.

    Am I right?

    Thanks!
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
    I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

How can a foul not carry any points away though.. you were right.

Just another scenario to this question, if say I was on the green which was right behind the black and I had a free ball after a foul, nominated the brown and simply rolled up behind it, would the snookering ball be the brown or the black ?

Effective snookering ball in that scenario is the Brown.

The brown would still be the snookering ball as it is the closest to the cue ball.

            17. Snookered
            (b) If the cue-ball is so obstructed from hitting a ball on by more than one
            ball not on:
            (i) the ball nearest to the cue-ball is considered to be the effective
            snookering ball; and
(ii) should more than one obstructing ball be equidistant from
the cue-ball, all such balls will be considered to be effective
            snookering balls.

And it would be a foul - you cannot snooker behind the free ball unless only pink and black remain.
You are only the best on the day you win.
