This would be my answer too pal at a guess, but the point was raised he is NOT snookered he can hit a single edge and after flicking threw the rules we cant seem to find where it states about seeing both extreme edges after this kind of situation

Yeah i understand he can see one edge of the red but it counts as a snooker as section 2 states

It's in the definitions section:

17. Snookered
The cue-ball is said to be snookered when a direct stroke in a straight line to every ball on is wholly or partially obstructed by a ball or balls not on. If one or more balls on can be struck at both extreme edges free of obstruction by any ball not on, the cue-ball is not snookered.

So he was definitely snookered on that red, and if there were no other reds on the table, definitely a foul.

They need this quote on the end of the table to stop people arguing about this. I have seen so many examples of people claiming it isn't a snooker because you can see one side of the ball. Grrrrr . . .

Last week I watched a game of snooker at the club and one guy was sure that you get 2 shots after a foul.

I just read the rules from the one posted here and in section 2:17 it states

The cue-ball is said to be snookered when a direct stroke in a straight
line to every ball on is wholly or partially obstructed by a ball or balls not
on

so it does say partially obstructed and that is what you were on about it was obstructed therefore snooker, so its a foul 4 points to player B and he has free ball

Yes... you can be snookered by the free ball, and it is no foul in this case.

and to add again, there is one other situation where you can be snookered by the nominated Free Ball and it not be a foul...
if the nominated Free Ball is potted and then spotted, and subsequently snookering the Ball On.
This scenario came from a long-serving referee - who unfortunately no longer contributes to TSF.

correct, that is the interpretation as I see it, once the nominated Free Ball has been potted and spotted it is no longer the nominated Free Ball.

Well, if you pot the nominated ball, you are not snookering your opponent behind the nominated ball because it will not be your opponent's shot!
