  • Table Iron

    Hello Guys,

I am looking for a table iron and was wondering if the ones from the UK would work with the USA electrical system. I am trying to find one in the USA but it seems no one stocks them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards,

The power cords are different in the US and the UK. Also the voltage is different. My experience is that equipment from Europe doesn't work properly in the US. My battery charger didn't work, my razor didn't work, it was all a big pile of poopie. I had a plug convertor, but because of the voltage difference, it was all futile.

Different electrical system, but you can buy adapters to convert.

best going with a more costly watt/voltage conversion adapter than a standard adapter to "eliminate" problems

The trouble is that something like an iron draws some serious current. I can't find the power specifications of any of the common table irons but a typical home iron is around 1kW, and a step up adapter with that kind of capacity is serious piece of kit. You would need a proper transformer as opposed to a simple plug adapter as the table irons do specify 210-240V (they're not auto switching like some more high tech devices are).

In short, you'd need something like this:

which is neither cheap nor pretty but it ought to do the job.

Thanks for the information guys. I talked with some that use a regular iron on the wool setting but they said you had to really press down hard to get it to work properly. The UK snooker irons have the weight built in the iron.

normal irons can be used instead of a table iron, but id recommend a table iron.

when using a normal iron you just have to be careful. can also add weight tape to a normal iron. probably fine for small pool tables, but again, a proper table iron is your best bet.
