    Hi
I am running an in house tournament at my club, I have run this tournament for the last 3 years and each year it’s a problem how to work out the format, mainly because the entries vary each year.
This year I have two groups the A group consists of 8 players and the B group consists of 11 players, I try to make the tournament last for the season.
The tournament is held on a round robin format, and the top 4 go to the knockout stage its played over 4 nights 2 nights for A and 2 nights for B and using 2 tables per night.
Now this is my ? Is there someone out there in snooker land who could advise me on a format? To have a formula that could be used regardless of the number of players would be even better. Thanks Viv Rosser.

If I read your posting right Im assuming the top 4 players from each group go through ??

If so why not do the following

    1. Winner Group A Vs 4th Place in Group B
    2. Winner Group B Vs 4th Place in Group A
    3. 2nd Place Group A vs 3rd place Group B
    4. 3rd Place Group A vs 2nd Place Group B

Winner of Match 1 Vs Winner of Match 3
Winner of Match 2 Vs Winner of Match 4

    Then the final ?

    Seems a sensible formula

Too complex for me. And i've seen many an argument on how to, and whats fair. I do know there is a company that sepecialises in formatting fair competitions. Though I doubt that is worth it for a small comp.

Was just a suggestive formula, we used to the same for the Darts comp I was in years ago.. worked easily enough

                  What's that in English?

I also don't agree that 1st vs. 4th would necessarily be a walkover.

I remember a certain Yahoo Pool competition which featured a #1 vs. a #4 in which the #4 defeated the #1 and the final score was 4-2.

Because when you post it rises to the top of the front page, pushing other threads down, and people read to see if anything interesting has been added. Fair enough if you didn't realise, but if the only reason is your post count it's just wasting people's time. So please - in future don't post to old threads unless you have a serious question or something useful to add.
