You have to be careful about doing things like this, as if a ball touches the rest it will be a foul, and it is quite surprising where the balls can end up sometimes. There was an incident a long time ago where John Pulman left his cue extension on the table while he played a red. He hit it harder than intended and the red rebounded off the pocket jaw and headed straight for the extension. To make matters worse, he was bridging over the pack of reds at the time, so was hardly in the best place to move it. Despite this, he did manage to get his extension out of the way in time. The only problem was he moved virtually all the other balls on the table in the process!
I seem to remember a pro player (possibly Mark Williams?) a few years ago leaving his mini-butt on the table and then panicking as the cueball headed towards it ... I forget whether he managed to move it in time or not ... it might be on YouTube somewhere

Yeah I remember seeing that. As I recall, he didn't attempt to move it out of the way, realising that he would only foul something else if he tried to. So he just watched and the hoped the foul wouldn't happen; but it did. I can't find the incident on YouTube though.
thanks for posting that video ... certainly one of the better moments in snooker - I love Hendry's smile and William's sheepish grin
The video is only available for UK viewers
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins. I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)
