My dowsing is on number 7, Philip..Used number 9 once and I am sure it slightly burnt one of my previous number 10 cloths, I could see some like light brown marks on the cloth just after ironing, it wasn't singed though. Another thing you have to watch on cloths is hand moisturiser, which I use, this can leave dark green patches on cloths too. Thought I did not have a lot on my bridge hand once but again I spotted these dark green circular marks and can only put it down to some Nivea I used after a shower, the marks did annoy me, lol..

I always keep the iron a bit on the cool side. I couldn't tell you what setting without going over there and taking a look. My idea is that it is better to have it too cool and end up giving it a second ironing than too hot and forking out for a new cloth.

In our club a lot of the tables have what looks like a worn middle section roughly a third of the table wide but right down the middle, what has happened there?

I could understand a much narrower strip if somebody ironed up to the blue spot then ironed from the other side and did the centre bit twice although I doubt that that would make much of a difference.

When ironing I sometimes start from one side, sometimes from the other, sometimes from the centre and work out one way, sometimes the other way but I am a trifle obsessive.

I think Geoff Large is the one to ask on this.
