It is a kind of stuck on golden badge that the factory put on the reverse of the butt.

I've never handled an Omin cue, but bought a cheapo from HK as I wanted to try a maple cue. Initially I was disappointed as it said hand made, but was clearly coated with some black 'stuff' on the 'ebony'.

Anyway, 'discussions' with the ebay seller ensued and I ended up sanding back the cue, which revealed hand splicings, but at two different colours of wood. It doesn't really bother me as I seem to play better with it than my John Parris Classic!

Ended up paying £60 with all the extensions/case etc, so happy at that.

Not much good to you, but if you play well with it, don't worry too much.

Looks like somebody has attacked it with some 60 grit sandpaper , You need to get some 120 to get the scratches out and then some 240 and finish with 0000 wire wool , if you put some linseed and shellac / French polish on you will be surprised how dark the ebony will go !!! Better still take it to cue doctor and they will sort it for very litte £££

Gave cue a wipe down with damp cloth and black colour is coming off splices onto cloth, so gonna stop there and get a refund!
Packed cue for sending back and seller has said he'd refund me except my postage back or give me £30 discount.

Is this the one on ebay? If it's significantly not as described, you can escalate claim and ebay may find in your favour and refund the whole amount. I reported a dodgy branded jacket and (eventually) was emailed a return postage label, tracked, to return to seller and got the full amount back.

Doesn't sound too good at all !!! Clearly the seller has been trying to hide something ??

i think andy is right it has been dyed and sanded back - happens with a few of the cheaper thai cues thats why they are so heavily varnished.

Omin Cues are not normally known for hiding poor workmanship !! The problem is post factory and not anything to do with the manufacture of the cue (the clue is black coming off with the damp cloth ) The seller has been using black ink or shoe polish to make the brown ebony look Black !!! PS ADR147 . English , Chinese , Thai . You name any country that does not try to hide poor workmanship with black stains !!! In Fact they are not hiding poor workmanship they are simply making cheaper wood look like Ebony . The real problem lies in the marketing

Oh PS , Birmingham was the world famous centre for Ebonising and papier mache products to make them look like solid ebony ! To my knowledge no other Country has ever gone that far to produce cheap tat . Don't worry very soon you will not be able to distinguish any difference between a Parris cue and a Thai or Chinese cue or any other cue !!!

Posted back to seller today...shame as not a bad cue if it was left alone but do have that jiggly feeling of it being 2 different cues.
Oh well, gonna stick to the 1 pieces me thinks!

Thanks for all the replies and advice guys....appreciated!!

Hi Matey , I don't know how young you are or how many cues you have bought in your lifetime ?? The thing is , please don't get disappointed because you bought something that you didn't enjoy !! The next cue could be a real winner ?? I am not suggesting you buy loads of cues just to see which is best !!! Its just a cue learning curve !! To be enjoyed ...
