  • How to calculate club rankings???

Recently set up a small snooker club, 2 tables and about 30 members. I want to start a rankings list that i can update every week/month but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions?? At the moment we run a weekly flyer tournament but will have 2 or 3 bigger tournaments during the year

What do you mean by rankings? Do you mean handicaps? Handicaps are where the good players give the not so good players a start.

Where about's is the club ?

We used to take the best player as scratch [ 0 ] and go up in 7's . After a few weeks' you can get a feel for who should get what and then change the handicap .

By the way ............Welcome to TSF Mikey
Still trying to pot as many balls as i can !

To start, everyone gets a tournament club handicap and a 'lap dash' weekly handicap when they join the club depending on their standard of play.

At our club we play 'lap dash' (a 6 red - 10 minute timed knockout game) every Monday night. If you win you get 7 points, runner up gets 4 points and everyone else gets a point for turning up. If you win you lose 10 points from your 'lap dash' handicap, 5 from your lap dash handicap if you are runner up and everyone else gets a point added to their lap dash handicap. This encourages people to turn up each week. Highest points at the end of the year wins the 'lap dash' trophy.

During the year, we also have an A grade and a B grade (both best of 3 frames) knockout handicap tournament and also a combined A and B grade (also best of 3 frames) knockout handicap tournament. The top half of the players based on current handicaps are in A grade and other half play in B grade. People have a separate club handicap for these tournaments (i.e. 'lap dash' is separate). If you win one of these tournaments you lose 5 points from your club handicap, runner up loses 3 points. Everyone else gets a point added to their club handicap. For the next club tournament, the top half of players (based on current tournament handicap) plays in A grade and the bottom half plays in B grade.

At the end of the year we also have the club championship (A and B combined) with NO handicap. Again, it is best of 3 frames knockout. However, the final is best of 5 frames. If you win this you lose 10 points from your club handicap, runner up loses 5 point.

        So in total, their is:

        - the 'lap dash' trophy
        - the A grade handicap trophy (twice a year)
        - the B grade handicap trophy (twice a year)
        - the combined A and B handicap trophy (once a year)
        - the Club Championship (once a year)

        Then it all starts again.

My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins.
        I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

My local sports club play a few handicaps every year, but it's set up to try and give everyone a chance of winning.

You start at scratch, and then for each tournament your handicap is adjusted as follows:
Winner goes to a -7 (minus seven) handicap irrespective of their previous handicap
          Runner-up moves to scratch
Beaten semi finalists have 7 taken off their handicap - there is no lower limit (we did have someone who went to -14 once by winning and then getting to the semi in the next tournament)
Everyone else has 7 added to their handicap upto a maximum of 35

Works quite well - no-one has ever won two on the trot which keeps the interest up for the lesser players
