I've heard it said when players who play in PTC's are at the table. You can see they get embarrassed themselves by it.

Best option to all these problems is simple - keep a set of foam ear plugs in your cue case... if your opponent or even team mates utter a focus distracting comment as you approach a shot...merely stand up from the shot, look them straight in the eye whilst shaking your head....walk to your case, pause taking a sip of your drink ( a la Davis circa 1980s) put your ear plugs in, shrug your shoulders & take your shot.
Come the hand shake at the end simply offer a wet lettuce of a hand to your opponent whilst not even looking at them....and say absolutely nothing.
