  • Cue ball and end of frame

I was watching the snooker the other day and it was a tight frame and both players had missed a few chances(can't remember the two players involved) and on the final black one of them potted it to win by nine, the ref called ,seven and the frame, and the player kind of lobbed his cue onto the table while the white was still moving(I think then went to the toilet). Should the ref have called frame while the white was still in motion?,what would happen if the white hit the cue? Surely the frame isn't over until the white comes to rest?
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

Yes he should of waited, and would of been a foul if it hit the cue.
But i expect the cue was no where near the white, and the white was obviously not going near a pocket ???

I remember that, it was Ding Junhui who did it when he was clearly frustrated with the table conditions. The white wasn't going near a pocket, but he certainly threw the cue pretty close to it. The camera didn't stay with it, but I half expected to hear the referee call foul in the background.

I notice that Bingham has a habit of taking balls out of the pocket and place them on the table, while the Cue Ball is still moving form the last shot. Not seen the cue ball hit by any other ball, but also not heard any foul being called.
        Up the TSF! :snooker:

That's exactly right Odri the black was potted into yellow pocket and the white was not quick enough to reach a pocket but it must have been within a couple of inches at most of the cue, but the camera cut away, that's what drew my attention to it as I thought , wow that must have been close, but the ref has announced the frame as over before the white came to rest.

I have called a foul on a player for that very reason in the League, and I wasn't a very popular person! But it is of course a foul if the cue-ball should touch the cue during the course of a stroke. The referee should ALWAYS wait before calling.

There is one report of this happening in the World Championship, way back in 1937. See this thread - post no.22, Horace Lindrum v. Willie Smith, frame 17.

Do you know who he was playing. I'd like to try to find it on Youtube.

A touch pedantic for me if a foul were to be called.

It's not pedantic if the cue-ball is heading for a pocket and the cue diverts the ball though is it?
I often use large words I don't really understand in an attempt to appear more photosynthesis.

It's the ending of the penultimate frame, just before 53 minutes into the clip.

Thanks. Yes. Ding clearly did not look happy there.
