Could a pedantic ref insist on swabbing and DNA testing every ball after every stroke???
or what if while leaning over the table he disturbs some dust sitting on top of the cushion rail, and some of said dust wafts about in the air currents and before settling on a ball??? How can the player prove that he did not bring the dust to the table?

Wity - but it is 'equipment' referring to a players clothing! And Yes, the rule does imply snooker equipment, but the original question did refer to a 'button' and hence my reply (and others).
