  • getting a new cue tip

My tip is quite heavily worn and I need to replace it. I've seen blue diamond and elk master for around 50p a go and kamui and others for several pounds. Do you think the more expensive ones are better. I noticed during the world Championship, as I noticed before, that Ronnie O Sullivan obsesses over his tip condition, yet in commentary steve Davi said Ronnie uses the cheap tips. so im wondering doe she obsess because the cheap tip causes him problems (in which case I'm wondering why he doesn't use more expensive ones as he'd probably get them for free - not that he couldn't afford to buy them anyway.
So thought on why he uses cheap tips and what I should look at using?

Its not so much that elks are cheap it's the fact they have been round before the newer tips came on the market, some players like to experiments with newer tip's other's like to stick to what they know, in Ronnie's case elk's although this championship he has been using the newer elks with are quite a bit more expensive.

As for tip's what have you been using? what do you play like with the tip your using? if the answer is blue diamond or elk and your playing ok and comfortable with the tip then stick to what you know.

If you want to use a cheaper tip then use a pressed Elk Master. Tip presses are available on eBay for under 10GBP. If you want to go to a more expensive layered tip I would recommend either Talisman Soft or Phoenix MH.

I don't have a cue tip press so I find the Elk Master tip need re-shaping when I use them so I prefer the Talisman S which never needs re-shaping and will last me for around 6 months of daily use.

Another good layered tip just on the market is ADR's layered which are fairly expensive and come fairly thick but they should last about a year or so easily. You can order any of these tips from ADR147 on here or Green Baize.
