  • Foul when potting final red...

If a player fouls as they pot the final red, does the opposing player then have to play a free ball as a red, or do they go straight on to the colours (ie the yellow), as there are now no red balls left on the table?

No, the red stays down and they move on to the yellow. If you are snookered on the yellow then a free-ball may be taken as a yellow.

Before you go, consider these two scenarios:

        i) Player is about to play his stroke when he touches a ball with his sleeve. The referee calls 'foul', but the player then, in disgust, pots the red.

Because the player is now no longer the striker (his turn ended when the referee called foul, (Section 3 Rule 3(h) and Section 3, rule 11(a))), the referee would be quite within his right to replace the red and cue-ball (and any other ball that had moved) to its original position and his opponent play the next stroke (Section 3, Rule 15).

ii) As the player plays his stroke, he fouls the yellow with his sleeve.

In this case, the red stays in the pocket and the frame continues as normal (Section 3 Rule 11(b)).

        Hope this is clear.
You are only the best on the day you win.
