    I am fully aware of what's good or bad, actually. I 'm friends with a luthier supplies shop owner, who only ever stocks the highest quality woods, and I can go and pick one out in person.

    What's the point in resplicing someone else's cue? It's just the same cue but with a different butt.

      I think what golferson is getting at, without any experience in making cues you won't know what characteristics make a good playing cue. Ash can be of good quality but not necessarily good for cues. Also if you don't have a precision lathe don't even bother trying to make a 3/4 cue

        I have seen ash cue blanks on ebay. I guess it would be fairly easy to splice one of them and have an average one piece cue?
