it was 1988 and we're playing for a score and the bulbs. i remember the other fellas reaction more than anything, he looked flush and stunned, wouldn't leave me alone at the bar and kept shaking my hand waving his arms and telling everyone. i was giving a 50 start and was potting clean, i don't remember him potting a ball as i won 3-0 making 60,40,100, the ton was a clearance 111

I love this thread, thanks for all the stories, it gives you a right buzz reading them and makes you want to head straight down the club, unfortunately it's shut today so I will just have to spend an hour cueing in the mirror through my matchbox, sad as feck I know
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

Great find Byrom, I love the way even the pros light up when talking about their first century, makes me want one now.

I won my first ever tournament today! My local pro-am! 36 players turned up at 9am this morning to begin play, and and at about 8:45pm this evening, I was the winner!

I'm absolutely chuffed with that. I've been playing good stuff in practice and it's good to be able to take that form to the match table. I'm pretty pleased with myself
well done mate how come you dont fancy regular league snooker its the only way you can improve your all round game its great knocking tons in but league play is where its at your obviously good enough so play for a local team!

i disagree with this - one frame league snooker handicap is rubbish - only good for a night out and a laugh,

is that because you cannot deal with pressure or play at a poor standard?

competetive snooker is the way to go for me

Not bothered about playing one frame snooker to be honest. It's alright if you enjoy it, but not for me.

No like I say its ok for a night out - I just don't think it improves your game one bit though - quite the opposite it can do your head in - I think an just think an even match no start or best best of five's or seven's is better match play to improve a player as you settle better - and personally I find one frame snooker a bit boring if you have to give 40 or 50 start or more to someone who knocks all colours off the spots plays the wrong shots, then maybe grinds it out negatively picking off the mistakes and maybe beats you on a black or something after you made a 50 - that can be soul destroying as during that game you are forever chasing them points first before playing your own natural game.

In my local league, there is no handicap, Byrom.

There are 6 divisions, 6 being the worst and 1 being the best.

It's still the same scenario for me though. It's a totally negative frame, where you're both just trying not to do anything wrong. Refusing anything that's 60/40 because you can't risk it in one frame.

It's a totally different form of the game. If you enjoy it, that's fine.
