  • Foul question

Had an argument re the rules doing a game with my regular snooker partner the other day which I hope the members can clarify. While he was going for a thin cut off a red ball, his cue ball totally missed the red and fouled on the brown instead, the cue ball (or the brown ball) then went on to knock the pink into the pocket. I called a foul of six points for potting the pink while he claimed a foul of 4 points because the cue ball hit the brown first and therefore potting the pink was irrelevant. Which is it?

There were two separate fouls committed in this stroke. The first was failing to first make contact with a ball on (he hit the brown, so the penalty would be four). The second foul was to cause a ball 'not on' the enter a pocket (the pink, so penalty six points). If more than one foul occurs in a turn then the highest value penalty will apply, so yes, six points penalty!
