    Why not an extension at this case of the "miss rule" or a 8 pts penalty (the real value of this red)?

      It's not necessarily the 8 points that matters. Giving away 8 points is preferable to allowing an opponent to start a break from an easy red which was removed on a foul stroke.

        What if a player was 42 points behind with two reds left and the player 42 in front pots both reds and goes in off? 16 point penalty ("true value of two reds")? Your idea just wouldn't work. Even if you just kept it at 8 points, the player behind would still need two snookers.
