    Hi Maija,

    thanks for reading Snookerblog.de.

I'd just wanted to add that there's nothing set. According to German snooker commentary Rolf Kalb, the WSA is just giving Wildcards and they said that the winner of the amateur championships deserves one.

It was common practice to give the a ticket to the runner-up of an tournament if the winner had already qualified. It's very likely that this will happen to Daniel Ward, but it is not set in stone and not definitive.

As always we have to wait for the next tournaments and the official announcement of WSA to be sure.

I hope that clears things up, have a great main-tour-free time.

That is also why players like Burden and Woollaston will be given those places because for example the main tour spot for the IBSF Under 21 World Champion would have to be given after the season has started which would be stupid. If you know what I mean.

The World Snooker invites have been announced, Alfie Burden and Ashley Wright, the latter meaning my home town of Grimsby still has a pro after Sean Storey dropped off the tour!

I think Issara Kachiawong deserved to recieve a wildcard.
He qualified for the televised stages of the grand prix and won four of his five round robin matches
but was unlucky to be the only playerto achieve this and still not reach the knock-out phase.
I saw him play John Higgins and despite it being his TV
debut played very well and John Higgins had to be in top form to beat him.

Although I agree with what you say I thought Swail achieved that too.

No Swail lost to both Ken Doherty and Neil Robertson
so he only won 3 out of his 5 round robin matches
although others managed to advance achieving this.

                      Xiao Guodong (Asian U21)
                      Jimmy Robertson (England nominee)

both now on tour next year.

(You have to feel sorry for the 5 players yet to be given their places. they'll have less than three weeks to prepare for a year of Professional snooker.)

Who decides who gets the oceania spot?
I would have thought it would go to the runner up in the oceania champs Daniel Haenga if Deane O'Kane was ineligible, especially since the final went to a deciding frame.

The Current system seems a little dodgy and open to favoritism.

None of the semi finalists or the runner up wanted the spot so I guess he was the best player not to get that far.

Kevin Van Hove of Belgium gets a place on the tour after winning the European Play off. Only 6 places left (I think)

How many of these players do you think will survive on Tour? Wollaston, Maflin and Fernandez I can see making an impact, Xiao Guodong I think needs a little more experience, but he may get through on the one-year list, McBain should at least make the one-year list.

As for others, I'm not so sure. Mifsud couldn't even reach the Oceania semi-finals, van Hove didn't have a great PIOS season and the NGB nominations were all pretty crap last season if I remember rightly - Mark Boyle finished 95th from 96 players, Robert Stephen, Dermot McGlinchey and Jeff Cundy didn't survive, and I don't know if James Leadbetter has either. Who was the Irish nomination, David Morris?

Regarding the wildcard, I'd have kept Wollaston as one choice, but would have picked Bjorn Haneveer over Alfie Burden for the other. He just missed qualifying from PIOS, he's had Tour experience, and most importantly it would mean another non-UK player on Tour.

Alternatively, the wildcard could be given to Roy Stolk for comedy value.

I would have picked Craig Steadman over Alfie Burden. He just missed out again this year on the PIOS rankings, and he has had some good results in the Pro-Am series as well.
