Does it come in a red box and the chalk in a red paper saying for professional use by any chance?

You must be loving it since you sold it at that price. I know I would

Back to oiling, I've read somewhere that you can use beeswax.
My latest acquisition needs a bit of a refurb as it rubs/sticks a bit when cueing. I've dry sanded the shaft with some wet and dry paper grade P240C (not too rough) then rubbed it down with P1500A grade (which is very fine) to a smooth finish. I've then applied three coats of Renapur so far (contains a lot of beeswax). Each coat has been left to dry for 24 hours and then has had a fine rub down with P1500A before adding another coat.
It's given it a nice smooth finish and it certainly feels better. Has anyone else seen this stuff? Or should I sand it back again and use raw linseed or pure beeswax? I don't mind spending time on working on my cue to get the best finish.

there is no final answer to this, i like to finish cues with a mixture of pure beeswax, raw linseed oil and orange oil that i heat gently over a pan of water and blend together - it works very well but in truth the final finish is whatever you like best.

                Orange oil?
I seem to remember using citrus oil as a degreaser on my guitar neck - what properties does orange oil have?
