Tip and Chalk issue

Hi Guys

I seem to be having issues with chalk at the moment,
I am using elk tips, (not easy to find good ones)
I seem to be spreading chalk around the table with every shot,
I don't think I am over chalking the tip, I think it may be the tip.
I remember this used to be an issue 20 or so years ago,
but watching the games and players on TV and the net
there seems to be a lack of any of this happening.

I have tried various chalks, but still the best has been Triangle.
I also have an issue with the tips needing attention regularly,
I’m not a hard hitter, so never had this hardening issue before.
So I assume its hardening and losing the chalk.

Now I have ordered some tips from ARD147, I am hoping this
will make a difference and perhaps eradicate the hardening and
perhaps loss of chalk, can anybody recommend a more effective chalk

Triangle and elk are the perfect combination, the problem is theres a lot of fakes of both, the fake tips take chalk well due to bigger fibres, but the excess chalk then marks the white and cloth. The larger fibre also need constant sanding and smoothing, the weird thing is if you can put up with this they often play really well, I got a dodgy box off eBay a few years back and had tipped at least 10 cues with no complaints before I realised they were knock off!
Andrew will sort you out, but if you want to try a more consistent tip try an ADR medium, you won't be disappointed.

Had similar problem the last few months, I've noticed the humidity has been very high all winter. Could this be related to the issue?

Are you spreading chalk from the dust clouds that come to rest on the table or from striking very low down so it leaves a long streak?

I think the light green Triangle chalk is the best so maybe buy a box and then try each one out until you get to one that works perfectly. I say light green because I've seen darker green Triangle chalk that I can't stand playing with. It leaves marks all over the cueball which the lighter stuff doesn't do but the advange is it doesn't stand out as much on the table because it blends in with the cloth. I miscue more frequently when using extreme side and the darker green stuff so a good block of the light green Triangle chalk makes me 100% confident. I sometimes blow the tip to remove chalk but it's not a habit I do with every shot. I've never wanted to get in that routine where I have to do it before every shot.

I also think the darker green colour can happen when the chalk becomes wet or damp and then it should be thrown away as it will mark the cue ball with every strike.

i use a kamui black tip verry similar to the adr147 by all accounts i recently switched from triangle to masters chalk another high quallity chalk made by the same manufacturer tweeten and found it to be excaellent on the laminated kamui tip and seem to get more screw power with maximum screw the white seems to jump pause and then shoot off like a rocket dont know if it will solve your problem but i find it grips better on laminated tips

Played with kamui mh before, but now I have adr147 black medium fitted. Used triangle and agree that master grips kamui/adr better. At my club there's a lot of decent pool players so I tried predator 1080 chalk.
Very good alternative to master and doesn't leave marks on the cueball.

just ordered another adr147 tip last one I got was a soft tip and found it would not hold chalk at all (green triangle) and found it made a tinny noise on the shot- it last about 1hr before I ripped it of
goign to give one one last try and if same stick with mw super tip

I find that only happens when I am using a new tip, a soft tip or playing a lot of screw shots....
