      That's the way i interpret it .
The way I read it it is the other way around, ie the 6 black handicapper has to give 42 start to a scratch player.
The answer I guess is relative to the standard in the league he plays in ?
I would say if he has to give someone 42 start he should be easily capable of knocking in 50's regular ??

Yes but you think it is the player receiving the start, the question to me appears to ask about the player giving the start

Yes that is what he is asking .......what break would the 6 handicapper normally achieve .

Impossible question to answer , as it depends on the ability of everyone who enters the comp .

i.e Scratch player makes regular centuries[ best player in the club ] .......so 6 black handicapper would probably make 50's

Scratch player makes regular 70's [ again best player in the club ] .......So 6 Black handicapper would makes 30's

If you get my drift !

Yes but again you have it wrong way around lol
He is saying the handicapper is the better player

I don't read it that way Jon , how can the 6 black handicapper be the better player

It is slightly confusing the way it is written .

As the best player should be scratch and then other players are handicapped on their ability .

We need to know who is the handicapper, and who is the handicapee. Also whether the golfer would use a 9-iron or a sand wedge playing from pink to black.

I agree with Neil. The best player/players in the club or league are scratch and everyone else receives a certain number of blacks start. That's a fairly common system.

PS in my local Sunday night handicap tournament the good players are scratch and the "Really Really Good" can end up Minus 1 black, Minus 2 Blacks etc. The really really good players are (close to) pro standard.

I agree that's how normally it works, I think he has gone the other way tho, ie most are on scratch with the better players on - handicap ?

Yes, so the best in the league would be like 10 black handicap, giving a 70 start or maybe even more - 15 black start?! But as single frames go, players rarely hit their best break, usually just half that. So, I'd expect someone who is a 10 black handicap to achieve 50 breaks on average in a single frame with the odd ton and plenty 30-40s etc. I'd expect someone who is a 6 black (giving 42 start) to hit 35 breaks on average in a single frame with the odd 70 and plenty of 20-30s.
