heavy vs light cueball

Hello

I play with club balls sets, and they are old but the cueball is abit lighter and smaller than the other balls. i bought 2 of my own cueballs and they are standard size, however when i play with those they feel heavier and they are abit bigger than clubs balls.

so at the moment i am just using clubs cueballs, i just couldnt use my own cueball bcaz the weight doesnt match clubs sets. the other problem is i cannot carry the whole set with me if i buy one.

i get lots of kick when i roll with club cueball, having said that clubs balls are damaged too, scratches, small dents etc


should i use my own cueball or clubs cueball ?
dont ask me about the weight caz i dont know, when i bought mine, the guy said its standard size
now the club cueball looks smaller, mine looks bigger but abit heavier than other balls too

This is what I do as well, i have a full set but leave my cue ball at the club so its always there for when I can't be bothered to take them all or I'm skiving and pop in for a game.I weighed one of the club cue balls once and it was 126! The reds were a mixture of 136-141 iirc . The thing is even though the club white was very light I couldn't obviously see a size difference between it and my ball so ( and I'm probably wrong) have you bought the right sized ball, if it's very obviously bigger, it may be worth measuring.
I would say use your own cue ball, those light whites bounce around a lot and just don't play the same at all.

I agree with itsnoteasy regarding using your own cueball. Usually the average weight of Aramith Pro Cup or 1G balls is right around 141gms. They are expensive but the 1G sets come in a handy little aluminum suitcase although the handles are very weak but it makes them easier to cart around.

Balls lose size and weight as they age, the cue ball more than any other.

If it's any good to you HB I will take a photo of my cue ball beside the club cue ball to show how hard it is to see the difference, it might help you see if you have obviously got two different sized balls.

Like at my club, they probably have Premier's instead of TC's. Was making this point just last Friday at the club. I just can't get on with the lighter balls, compared to when using my own table.

well its not the obvious, but if you look carefully you can see the difference, specially the clubs balls, however when i put my own cueball it looks abit bigger and heavier but its hard to tell. however you can obviously feel the weight of the cueball though

i get lots of kick when i roll even with stun follow lots of kicks. sometimes its hard to see those kicks but you can tell when this light ball hits the reds or colors and it loses its power bcaz other balls are heavier and the white ball lighter

eg: if a fat man is standing although the physics says speed creates power, however if a skinny man runs and a fat man is standing , the skinny man will bounce back ... not realistic example , i just wanted to compare what i meant

yeah my club doesnst have a locker for whole set, so i cannot buy for now as i cannot carry with me everyday

with my own cueball i can hardly tell the difference, but when i lift it up, i can feel the heavy weight, however the club cueball is abit obvious

If the set of balls in the club are around 130g, and you start using your own cue ball which is normally around 141-143g for a tournament champion ball, then that is completely pointless. You've just swapped the problem to having a cue ball that is way too heavy now.

Unless you can match the weight of the cue ball to the set you are using at the club, I'm afraid it won't solve your issue.

If you can weigh a few of the balls in the set at the club, you can then order a cue ball that is the same weight as those.

Although, you need a proper set really. As someone said above, some clubs use the cheaper sets of balls that don't weigh anything like as much as a proper set.

I will take a photo on Friday, I think I'm going in then, mine is the same ,you can't see an obvious difference in the size but the weight difference can easily be felt. I got fed up getting bad contacts, no follow through and it bouncing around all the time, that's why I play with my own cue ball all the time. If you want to double check you have the right size you could get a very cheap digital calliper set off eBay for less than a fiver iirc.
Just a quick point on what Ted said, whatever you do, if your club has a few sets of balls, don't take your pocket scales down and raid all the sets to make one nice set, they dont like it

you can get two reds and place them either side of the white, then place the straight edge of a triangle along the top of the three balls, this will show you the difference in size between the white and the reds
