  • Sand off the varnish?

A friend has advised i sand off the varnish on the shaft of my cue so it slides through my hand better.

aesthetically it wont look the best (different to the butt) but if it makes my ga,e better than ill give it a go!

Is this a good idea or not?
if so will sand paper suffice to do it?

    Cheers

If you sand the varnish off your cue i would use a very fine sandpaper, after you have sanded the varnish off the cue will need to be 'sealed' again so that vapour doesnt get itno the cue and warp it and also the cue will become dirty.

Use raw linseed oil on the surface, apply a few coats and leave it to soak in overnight then buff dry.

After a few months of doing this your cue should develop a deep glosy shine and should glide through your hand, it will probably be better then than when you bought it.

    Hope this helps.

this trick works well but it depends on if its actually varnish or not (sometimes its a type of paint sprayed over it) and a few other important factors ie is the wood underneath dyed or touched up? - what sort of cue is it?
