  • First 2 ranking titles - 10 years apart.

I don't know if this has already been mentioned but Dominic Dale has now won his first and second ranking titles and these victories have been 10 years apart.
    Has anyone else done that???

No I don't think anyone has.

It was described as 'unprecedented' in some headline that I saw earlier, can't remember where now!

Oh wait, it was today's The Times, only gave it two column-inches but at least it included this useful bit of info!

Alex Higgins winning his 2 world titles 10 yrs apart & John Higgins nearly did the same (9 yrs apart)... but that's just totally different, only an observation

I like Dominic Dale and am pleased he won. He comes accross as very personable. Wish I had seen the final!

Were they both won 'as a qualifier' too?

Has anyone else done that (other than DIng)?

John Higgins and Ronnie possibly? I'm not sure, but I know they both won a couple very young like Ding. They were all young men storming towards a top 16 place though, unlike Dom. I can't think of any other 'lesser' players who've won two events having had to qualify. Was Mountjoy outside the top 16 when he had that lease of life at the end of the 80s?

And it's amazing if you think of it that Dom has now as many ranking titles as Dott, Robertson and Murphy! Was he ever in the top 16?

And more than Stevens. However you have to consider his age though and he has never been in the top 16.

In my opinion he is the best player never to have got in to the elite. He hasn't been consitent in the past, but maybe that could change now, who knows?

Was it strange playing each other with such a big crowd, when your used to playing together in a club?

When I saw this one, I immediately had to think of Doug Mountjoy. 10 years apart for tough Doug, when he won his first Uk Champion title in 1978 and his second in 1988!

here's a pic of Dougie after his win 1978!
(The UK not being a ranking tournament in 1978).

He is also the only player to have won a 2 ranking tournements and never been in the top 16. The only other player to have won a ranking tournement and not been in the top 16 I think is Canadas Bob Chaperon, but Dale has now won 2. He's provisionly 16, but theres 6 tournements to go to see if he can maintain his posisition.
