Snooker USA

Hi,

I live in Maryland, USA and over the summer vacation I traveled and was introduced to the wonderful world of snooker. I have become very interested in the sport, however, being in the USA, few people even know of its existence. The only thing they have here are pool halls which aren't professional. I was wondering if anyone knew of a snooker club here in Maryland, or anywhere northeast USA where I can hire a coach, or join a class to improve my game. I have bought videos and such, working on my stroke, my aim, etc.. on pool tables but it still isn't the same as snooker.

Any help would be appreciated!

I don't mean to be a pain, but that site seems to be inactive. I've also visited one of the two places you listen in MD. Its a pool hall with two old snooker tables that no one ever uses. I'm trying to find others who are interested in the sport so...

The main "hot beds" - if you can call it that - for snooker in USA are
California and New York

The New York Athletic club is a private members club and I think you need an invite to play in.

The main area is California, partly because it has a big population of ex-pat Canadians who took their snooker interest there.

There are other clubs - with snooker tables - but not many -- some of the pool halls have 10ft tables and American snooker - as they call it - is played with its own set of rules on ten foot tables...

Hi Enpicher! The best bet would be that u can have a snooker table at home bcoz unfortunately snooker is not very popular in northeast USA.Buy some snooker tutorials dvds & books from AMAZON.CO.UK and try practicing it urself.

Have there even been American snooker players with any sort of success? I can only think of Canadians.

Steve Mizerak from New Jersey was a very good player.We all know that he was a dominant pool player in the 70's & early 80's.But he was also a very good snooker player. He beat Steve Davis & Jimmy White in snooker challenge matches in 1986 & 1987.

Were any of these challenge matches videotaped? I assume they were held overseas and not here on this side of the pond...
