  • A Way forward ????

    Hi all,

I was on another forum earlier (TRAITOR I hear you cry !!!), and it mentioned the phasing out of normal element lightbulbs around 2011/12.

This reminded me of a local league snooker match played recently (well last night really...). It was at a newly refurbished club - looked and felt like a new fast cloth, new full set of rests/spiders/extentions and other accroutrements.

I noticed that at both the extreme ends of the table looked a bit dark. Ahh thought I, they've either not placed the light in the correct position or using lower wattage bulbs.

But to my horror, when I looked closer they had installed those energy saving things in there.

I was just wandering whether this is the start of a new trend and whether they are available in a bright enough / high enough wattage to cater for the intense light needed to clearly see balls & angles at distance ??

Same problem where I play. As I use the lights reflexions as a help to mentally "mark" the intended contact point ... I'm in trouble with the black. It also takes some while before the bulbs deliver their full potential.

      ....and another thing.

Especially with club play, it takes a while for these things to warm up. By that time your 50p's worth of meter time has gone.

As I'm playing at a place that calls itself "The Best Cue Sports Place in Europe" ( about that but some of the tables are signed by Mika Immonen, Oliver Ortmann, Niels Feijen and such) I've never experienced anything like this. And we don't pay extra for the lightning either.

The funny thing is that these energy saving light bulbs send out radio signals that interfere with a whole bunch of stuff.

That club looks very nice. Nice tables and spacious too.

I think a dimmer switch should be available for each table. That way if you have a migraine you can just turn the lights down a bit

I also practice in pitch black sometimes. Ultimate test of angle memory.
