  • Provisional Rankings

I have just been looking at the new provisional rankings on worldsnooker.com. It says 'here are the rankings after the tourney in China' but I am sure they have been updated to include the results from the Grand Prix.

First observations indicate an exciting run in for pole position between Higgins, Ronnie and fat boy, with Maguire, Selby and Robertson chasing them hard (ooh, chase me!)

Second observation is: how amazing is Ronnie O'Sullivan? He didn't go to the Shanghai Masters and he walked out of last year's UK and got no points and he is still almost provisional world number 1!!!
"And slowly and surely they drew their plans against us"

He did get points in the UK, he got last 16 loser points rather than the quarter final loser points. Plus the Grand Prix's ranking points are nearly the same as the UK now which is a bit strange.

They promote the points for Grand Prix? When? I only know UK Champs carries 1,5 of all the others except the Worlds. Where can I find the most updated information about this?

They upped the points for the grand prix 3 or 4 seasons ago when the top 16 started in the last 48 stage as opposed to the last 32 stage.

but looking how consistently Murphy is playing, I think he could be the provisional no. 1 by the end of this year...

It often seems that Ronnie is very inconsistent, but his ranking shows that he must be far more consistent than he seems.

I think Mark Williams will be number 1 soon!!

Seriously, I think Ronnie is looking good for number 1 by the end of the year. Another final and he should go pretty close, providing Higgins doesn't meet him in that final and beat him of course.

Think it was only last season, with the round robin. 2005 grand prix i'm almost certain was worth as many points as welsh open etc.

Oh, and Ronnie got first round loser points for Shanghai as well.
