  • Free ball question

    Hi there.
If me and my opponent are 'on' the yellow ball for example , and I'm awarded a free ball, could I snooker my opponent?
E.g., Select the pink as my free ball, tap it behind the pink against the cushion, thus snookering my opponent?
Also, what constitutes the free ball in terms of distance? What if I can see just a slight fraction of the ball, is there a certain amount of ball that needs to be showing?
    Cheers
    Ben

You are not allowed to snooker behind or using your nominated freeball.

I think this happened to Doug Moutnjoy in the 90's, John Street reminding him and they both had a giggle about it.

Sounds fair enough to me- you are at a good advantage anyway in the freeball situation- to snooker or roll up behind the nominated freeball; well, a little bit low and cheap, surely?

A freeball is not dependant on distance- if you can't see BOTH SIDES of any possible object-ball resulting from a foul, you have a freeball.

If you cannot see BOTH sides of the ball you would normally be going for, then it is a free ball, but if you nominate a free ball, you cannot then sooker behind that ball. Hope that makes sense! Also, you ARE allowed to snooker behind a free ball if only the pink and black are on the table.
