  • Final black ball question

Had this situation in our match last week.

Pink and black left on the table, their guy potted the pink to lead by 10 points, the decided to try and cut the last black in (his own choice), missed the cut and went in off. This put our guy three points behind.

Does our guy get a chance at the black left to win the frame?
Their captain said no, that it was the end of frame, we said that the frame shouldn't have finished.
We still won 4-1, but should that have been a 5-0 result?

Sure someone will come along with a better (and correct ) answer but AFAIK, once he has potted the pink and it's not possible for the opponent to win or draw, the game is effectively over so it doesn't matter if he fouls thereafter.

If he didn't play the black it would have been their victory, but they made a seven point penalty, and the frame was not over yet. You should resume the game by any logic.

What if he pots the pink and gets angled with the cue ball? It's still his turn, and it's very much likely that he will make a seven point penalty.

          Excerpt from the Rules:

          4. End of Frame, Game or Match
          (a) When only the Black is left, the first score or foul ends the frame excepting only if the following conditions both apply:
          (i) the scores are then equal, and
(ii) aggregate scores are not relevant.
          (b) When both conditions in (a) above apply
          (i) the Black is spotted,
(ii) the players draw lots for choice of playing
(iii) the next player plays from in-hand, and
(iv) the next score or foul ends the frame.
          (c) When aggregate scores determine the winner of a game or match, and the aggregate scores are equal at the end of the last frame, the players in that frame shall follow the procedure for a re-spotted Black set out in (b) above.

So in your case the foul on the black ends the frame as the score was not equal then (but three points behind). I hope the explanation is satisfactory.

Yep, first foul on the black ends the frame unless scores are then level.
