  • Deliberate Fouls

It doesn't happen a lot on the circuit but what happens if someone does? I ask because I have been playing for 15 years and never ponder upon the answer. In Pool/American pool you forfeit the frame.

So if on a snooker table a player is snooker and there is no way of hitting a red (like if 4 colour balls surround it) what would happen?

I quickly read through the copy of the rules i have and it doesnt say anything about fouls on the red. I guess that means that the shooters inning ends and the incoming player takes the ball in position. I did read that if a foul is commited on the last black, then the frame ends.

As for american pool, fouling on purpose is not a forfeit of the game. It is just a foul counted, incoming player takes ball in hand.

    EDIT:
Just went through the forums and found this thread:

so i guess its 3 misses and then a forfeit.

Actually in pool, if someone is in a situation where its impossible to escape from. Then its a re rack. I would love to see Hendry snooked in the corner with 4 colours surrounding the cue ball

I love the quintessentially English, 'ungentlemanly conduct' rules we have in sports. However its always a grey area.

I was under the impression that as long as you made a genuine attempt to hit a valid ball (and the easiest to hit if there are more than one) then a miss wouldn't be called and your opponent would have the choice of playing from the position or electing to put you back in.
The only reason "miss" is called so often in the pro game is because of the standard at which they play.
So surely if the white was completely surrounded but the player made a 'genuine' attempt to hit a valid ball, a miss wont be called and it carries on where the white finishes.

I think also "3 misses and forfeit" applies only when you can see (not snookered) a valid ball.
