Thank you for your information. However, there are many kinds of Ash: white ash, black ash, and golden ash. Do you know which kind is the best for making cues?

I think both woods made quality cues. It's just the matter of personal choice.
I personally like ash as my shaft, like the chevrons and natural feel.
There are many kinds of ash out there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraxinus
I think is the grade thats matter..

A new Cue.
Quite a few people i know have brought handmade cues, from various cue makers. The reason i have never done this is because i have never ever been that certain on what exactly i want out of a cue, or how it should look. Plus the added factor of price.
I can now say with alot of confidence what i would have now. It would be;
1 piece.
Stiff maple shaft.
17-19oz in weight.
Ebony butt, no inlays.
balance point at 18 inches.
57 inches long.
10mm stainless steel ferrule.
Can anybody tell me how much this would cost me? hypothectically or course.Cheap and Cheerful! 😄

Every cuemaker sell their cue at different price.. even though is the same design.
A JP classic could easily cost you anything more than 200pounds..
You can try craftman.. they have some good deals there..
