  • Brian Cakebread

In the late 70's or early 80's I watched a guy called Brian Cakebread play Jimmy White in the Pontins Open at Prestatyn, if I remember correctly Brian beat Jimmy :snooker: does anyone remember Brian or know if he still plays etc.

I think Brian is from Leicester and is a mate of willie thorne, he was a good player and i think he tried his hand on pro tour in early 90s

I've only just saw this thread, I actually had lessons off Brian when i was about 12/13 (16/17 years ago) it was £10 an hour back then, he may still do this now, though i have'nt seen him in Willie Thornes Snooker Club for a while, and he must be mid 60's now, i have seen him in the bookies in Leicester a few times in the past few months.

Very good player though, and the first proper player i got to see up close as a youngster.

I remember seeing Brian in the Pro-Ams in Leicester in the late 80's, and I've practised with him at the old Pro-Ticket events on occasions.

He was an awesome player and very talented. I'm sure he's missed

                Enquiry regarding Brian Cakebread

                Hi,

this is probably too late by now, you may already know the answer to your querie but I have just registered for the forum so here goes:-
Brian Cakebread was a professional player from Leicester. He coached in the Willie Thorne Snooker Centre but came originally from Leeds, (Morley in fact) where he played with another professional John Dunning. These two and another player won the all England CIU Team Championship twice I believe. Regretably both have now died, Brian died about three four years ago. John died a little over a year ago . Hope this helps. Colin Lewis............

You are well informed about Brian Cakebread. Originally from Morley Leeds and playing with John Dunning. I played in the pro-ams at Prestatyn like Brian for many consecutive years. He did beat Jimmy White. I beat Jimmy White in 1979. Brian passed away 2009 aged 69. A local tournament is played at Willie Thorne's Leicester in his memory.

                        Welcome to TSF Luke
here is what CueTracker has on Brian so far
                        http://cuetracker.net/Players/brian-...tal-Statistics
I say so far, as I am researching the early 70s and into the 60s and have come across many references to matches with Brian listed, but they have not yet been uploaded.
I can do a specific search for his name later and see if I hit any other information if you like?
Were there any other Cakebreads playing snooker/billiards back in the day do you know?
                        Up the TSF! :snooker:
