Million questions about a cue

Hi,

I'm planning to buy a snooker cue and I have lots of questions about it. I hope you find some time to help me, 'cause as you can see, I'm not very familiar with the topic.

1. Where can I buy a cue on-line (and they have to ship it to European Union)?

2. Well ... I've looked at prices and different cues and therefore, is it possible to get a normal cue for, lets say, 50 USD?

3. In cue lists, some names include the term "3/4". What does it mean?

4. Any more suggestions?

I used Google to find your site as well, so I'm completely familiar with it

I have considered eBay as a possible place to buy a cue but its always good to have a second opinion. And after all ... a few days ago I couldnt find an appropriate cue from eBay. Lets hope someone will sell one soon.

I think many writers and readers here are professionals and I'd be delighted to hear their suggestions.

I hope you have some success Dethor; if you've played before, you'll at least know what weight and tip size you'd like, if not, are there at least some pool tables to get an idea what you'd like?

The term 3/4 is easy to explain if you look at this picture of one...



As you can see, the joint isn't in the middle (whic is called a two-piece) but it's a quarter the way up from the butt; the 3/4 means the rest of the cue length up towards the tip. If I had the choice to buy a cue now, I'd go for a two-piece and then get a small telescopic screw-in extension for any awkward shots out of reach (called SD extensions). It would be a lot easier to carry round then as you're gonna need a case to carry your bits around.

The tip size can vary anything from 5 to 12mm, on average, League players use either 9 or 10mm. The smaller the tip, the more spin you can put on the white and the larger it is the less accurate you have to be in your cueing; vice versa.

The weight is personal, mine's a bit of a monster at nearly 20ozs, but it's what you get used to if you had a choice and experience of other cues.

There's no replacement for actually being able to choose between few cues within your budget to try out..... good luck in your quest; get a good cue that you like and it's half the challenge sorted out.

I've played snooker for a year now and 8-ball for 3 years before that.

I've been using a 19oz cue with 10mm tip so far and I'm probably gonna continue with the same parameters.
