According to Section 1.1.c. of the rules:

    (i) There shall be pockets at the corners (two at the Spot end known as the top pockets and two at the Baulk end known as the bottom pockets) and one each at the middle of the longer sides (known as the centre pockets).
(ii) The pocket openings shall conform to the templates authorised by the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA).

I think that the corner pockets measure 3.5 inches across.

The centre pockets measure 3.25 inches across.

On club tables, the more undercut there is, the easier it becomes to pot a ball.

Quite a lot of discussion in various past threads, such as this one:
      http://www.thesnookerforum.com/board...ad.php?t=11526

It seems odd that the Rules do not specify a dimension, but as the above linked thread shows, there is so much more than just the measurements themselves that affects the performance of the balls.

It is generally accepted that the corner pockets are 3½ inches wide and the middle pockets 4 inches.

As Statman pointed out, there are quite a few threads on the subject that are very interesting. There are many factors that affect how 'tight' a pocket is, they are the cut of the pocket on the jaws, the curve of the jaws, how deep the pocket fall is into the actual pocket between the jaws, the fall of the slate, the distance from the fall to back of the leather, and even how new the pocket leather is, if it is hard, then a ball could hit it and come back out again!

        I hope this helps,
