  • Holding your cue

Hi everyone. I have a problem with my cue tip due to how I hold my cue. I only hold it in one way. My palm goes over the "chiselled" part of the cue and this is how I feel most comfortable.

Due to how I hold my cue, only 1 area of my tip gets worn down so I constantly have to re-shape and then re-tip my cue.

Does anyone else hold their cue in a particular way?

Would this mean itis better to have a cue where the butt end is round instead of having the flat part at the end?

Many Thanks for all replies in advance.

How you are holding your cue is not unusual at all.

Most players tend to hold their cue in the same position shot after shot, so the wear you are experiencing is normal. The reason for it is because the contact point at the top of your tip varies depending on what shot you are playing and where on the white the tip strikes. When you strike the top of the white, there is not as much force needed to get the ball moving as when you strike low in the white. So, when you strike low on the cueball, the weight of the ball has a greater effect, causing this increased wear on that part of the tip.

If you look at your tip, this is where it will appear more squashed....yes???

This is the 'normal' wear of the tip and SHOULD NOT BE SANDED OUT.

If you sand the tip back into a perfect domed shape again, all you are doing is removing the normal shape of the tip after it has bedded in properly. As long as the tip is not getting ragged due to this wear, I'd leave it alone.
