  • Amazing Ding Shot...

    Greetings everyone.

Those of you who watch the premier league regularly will have seen this shot. I think it was during the Ding vs. Davis match a couple of weeks ago, but I may be wrong. I can't find any footage of it sadly.

Anyway, Ding smacked a red into one of the black pockets and jumped the white over the pack to get position on the black. I have never seen a shot like this, although the commentators were adamant it was played deliberately. I think Neil Foulds credited the invention of the shot to Davis himself.

Did anyone else witness this shot?? And does anyone know how to play it??

you can achieve this jump effect by striking down the cue ball at above centre with the butt lifted

Yes, you will need to hit down on the ball to make it bounce off the bed of the table. Once you have done it once, it becomes easy. It is a jump shot used quite common in 9 ball and 8 ball for positioning--some players woudl even try to make the object ball jump over another ball.

At the moment when a link is mentioned on this site, soon after the clip has been removed on Youtube, unfortunately.
Recently it happened to the Robertson - Stevens match. So at the moment the best advice would be, make a search on youtube.
