Maximum break?

Hi

I just wondered if anyone has ever made a 155 (147 plus a freeball red followed by a black)

I know it's technically possible, just wondered if it had actually been done.

Jamie Cope has had a 155 break at my snooker club about a couple of months ago. The guy who he played (David Fomm-Ward) missed a thin safety back to baulk when there were 15 reds still on the table. The white ended up about 4 inches directly behind the brown and he couldnt see the reds. He then took the brown as free ball and potted it to the far corner (i think) and landed on the black. He then got 15 red, 15 blacks , yellow, green, brown (rattled the brown and fluked it in), blue,pink and black. His highest before that was 151 which he had a couple of years ago.

155 eh? mind boggles dunnit, bet he was chuffed; great to have the skill to even attempt it.

Is that the only 155 ever done in the world? I suppose its an unofficial break because it wasnt in competition and there was only 2 people at the time watching it.

Well GSC has a huge vault of info and although I've not found the page with the current records on it, (just the Google result on cope, the year and amount), if it's on their as a highest practice break, 155 will replace it .... I've added an entry on the Guestbook as our member with the site's name has "specified no emails".

Was this an actual tournament match or was it just a practice session. For any breaks to be officially ratified they have to be refereed by someone or have a witness to verify this.

This leads to another question, quite often the amount of maximum breaks are recorded and go down in history but in cases of amatuer or junior events these shouldn't count IMO. Judd Trump currently is the youngest player to have achieved a maximum in competition, but the table he played on wouldn't be counted at professional level. So why should he be allowed this record when he played on a table with (to say the least), generous pockets?!
Not taking anything away from the achievement just making the point.

Yes, you do have a point. Jamie cope had two witnesses who saw his break, the guy who he was playing and the owner of the club (who is his coach). It was on the downstairs table which is identical to the proffesional tables on tv.
