"Ideally, the cueing hand should finish in the same place on the chest on every shot..." Just read it on thesnookergym.com.
What about soft stuns or soft top spins ? in order to achieve it, you must "shorten your cue" by griping it closer to chest. What do you think?

I think sometimes your grip will finish a bit shorter than other times, depending on the length of your follow through. Like if you play a power screw, you should have a longer follow through than a soft shot, right? With a longer follow through my grip usually finish more forward than with lessed follow through.

I am not sure may be I misunderstood the quote? Does nto make much sense to me.

I am not saying i agree with the method you speak of but what it means is that the grip will strike the chest upon completion of the shot. If you are playing a soft shot then you move your hand up the cue so that there is less distance between your grip and your chest. Therefore your follow through is shorter. On a power shot you can move the grip slightly back (towards the butt end) and this will increase the distance to your chest. This time the follow through will be longer. It just means that every shot finishes with your grip hand hitting your chest, keeping it consistant.

      I hope this helps.

Thanks for the replay. basically that's what I meant. if my memory serves me correct, Terry Griffiths mentioned on his video coaching what you have wrote: 80% of shots you have to grip normally, 10% of shots (soft shots) you have to move your hand up the cue and the remaining 10% shots (power sots) you have to move the grip near the butt end so every shot finishes by hitting the chest. so I guess we speak just about the same thing.

          Hi,
On some of my softer shots I do not hit my chest with my grip. I draw the cue back only a couple inches and then I follow through--naturally, my grip will fall short of my chest.
Should I try to get all my shots to finish with my grip hitting my chest?
I feel that my timing is more or less the same though whether my grip touches my chest or not. The only time I really have problem with my timing is power top when I feel that my cue it going up and down like a yoyo on my warm up if I dont make a mental note of hitting my chest with my grip, but that is another topic.

It seems to me that one's hand stopping on one's chest is a gauge like on a drill press... controlling the amount of penetration allowed in the stroke... it works... my lovers have always seemed to know this fundamental...

I don't think there really is a set way to cue. When i am playing pool I see any number of grips and stances. Every person is different and if you are comfortable, you will play at your best
