  • Any Canadians out there?

I'm wondering if there are any Canadians on the forum besides me and Pooljunkie? Where do you play? What's you're highest break? How old are you? What kind of cue do you use? Who's the best player you've played/seen?

    Just curious.

      CTquick147... I live in Toronto.
Tallguy is correct, Cliff has helped me with my game.
I have been playing snooker on and off since 1966 so I have played hundreds and hundreds of players better than myself.
Currently, the Qualifiers for the Canadian Championship 2009 begins on Saturday at my local club and I have enjoyed many games with quite a few of the younger players.
About the time John Spenser urged Cliff to go to England, back in the Good 'Ol Days when snooker was broadcast on the CBC and there were Exhibition matches here, I'll never forget seeing Jimmy White, Alex Higgins, and others.
Heroes here when I was younger, Cliff, Kirk, Alain, I still watch as often as possible... and wish I could see Bill again.
I hope one day to get to the Crucible... I would love to see The Genius play live.

PS. CT... where do you live?

I'm in Vancouver, where there's not as much interest in snooker here as there once was. Too many of the young players here are choosing 9-ball. However a strong group of younger players who've come over from Asia are basically keeping the game alive here, a few of them went to the Canadian championships last year one of whom I believe made it to the last 16, his name is Jason Lee. I played him once, he's a good grinder.

Yes, CTq147... I agree and have the same take on snooker in Toronto.
We are lucky to have a large Chinese community here as well, and their strong interest in snooker is a huge help in keeping our sport alive.
A forum member here who has become my friend, michaelm is a great example of enthusiasm and commitment to excellence through practice.
Michael even organizes informal snooker get-togethers with his Chinese friends which have filled our club! A true sign of friendship is is being allowed to be an "Honourary Oriental" at such times. LOL.
Another Chinese friend who I practise with almost daily is Jonathan Sun who got to the QF in last years Canadians... a very good player and a great guy.
Their focus and determination have been a wonderful source of healthy competition and an inspiration to me and my game.

          感谢你我的朋友

Thanks for introducing me here, Noel. The Chinese characters are amazing. Do you know what they mean?

CTquick147, I lived in Vancouver for the last 5 years and played some good players there. There is an old guy named Joe who comes from HongKong. He was a good player when he was young. He used to play with Marco Fu when he was in Vancouver. Also, I know another Canadian Paul, who is a good player too. I didn't see him a lot but I did watch him play 80+ at TOP147. And the guy in highbreak, he's good too although he usually play for money.

Although now I have moved to Toronto, I never forget my friends back in Van. Where do you usually play? Highbreak? Top147 or eSports? I have a best friend named Lu who is from mainland China. I would be happy to introduce him to you if you want to have one more serious SNK player. He is planning to open a snooker house in Vancouver. Maybe you can get a better rate if he can open it. ^_^

                No.

Not really, but hope they say... "Thank you my friends".

                  Just curious.

                  Hey all,
I live in toronto and have just started played again after about 15 years off. I played all through high school instead of going to class and made a few bucks back then lol. I think my best break was somewhere around 60 and I would average a few 30-45s frequently. I just bought a baracuda "professional 17 oz cue and have played 3 sessions with one of my old snooker buddies from our high school days who wanted to get back into playing too.

I live downtown toronto and my bud lives in north york, can anyone tell me where the best places to play are in the GTA? The only place I know if Annex billiards near bathurst and bloor which is fine, but the tables aren't great and there isn't much room etc.

                  Thanks,
                  Morgan

                        Hey Michael

Great to hear from you. To answer your question, I usually play at a pub in Burnaby called the Village Inn, it's a dive but the price is right, and they have a decent old National there, and a few wicked players; Mark Green, Rob Brookes, and the man who taught me the game, an Englishman named Dave Williams. All really good players and nice guys as well. When I can afford it I usually go to TOP147, one of the fellows who works there, Keith, is a great guy and a very enthusiastic player, he spent last summer at the academy in Sheffield, and we've had some great matches together.

Of course, whenever they open their doors for a tournament, then The Terminal City Club is THE place to play in Vancouver. The six 100 year old Burroughs & Watts tables are as challenging as they are beautiful to look at( the pockets are absurdly tight); I was fortunate enough to win the last open doubles event held there, my partner, another excellent player from the Village Inn; Barry Rogers, and I, beat Ike Toews in the final, who holds the record for highest break there(114) one of only two centuries ever compiled at the club, which has been open for 80 years.

And yes, please, if your friend opens his snooker parlor, please tell him to cut me deal.

                          Hi jonnymumble...

Normally if you left click on the name of the poster a pop-down menu offers you choices including "send a PM". When I click on yours it doesn't, meaning you have to enable PM function in the top banner "MY PANEL" then "Control Panel" then "Edit Options" then "Messaging and Notifications" then "Private Messaging" then finally put a check mark here... Enable Private Messaging

I'd be happy to hear from you!
                          Welcome to TSF.

Noel, I think you played quite well today at the tournament. You improved a lot. Maybe just need to get used to the environment. And, you are right, the Chinese characters' meaning is 'thank you my friend.'
CTquick147, is your picture post on the Vancouver snooker website? I might have seen you if there is. So nice that you know Keith, I bet he won't forget me cuz I gave him a hard time when I was in Vancouver. He did go to England and improve his game. And I believe he brought back a Hunt&Osburne cue with him. You don't know my friend Lu? He goes to TOP147 every Friday and now he doesn't have any partner to play snooker after I moved to Toronto. I'll PM his contact info to you. Hopefully, you guys can hook up sometime and I am sure he'll cut your deal if he opens his own snooker parlor.
