  • How do you brush a snooker table correctly

Down at the club we are having a debait ... again ,the table is brushed correctly going down the nap ,but it leaves traces of baise , which sticks to the balls even after it has been brushed / ironed , etc . The question which has been recieving conflicting answers, can you use a cloth with water on it to clean the baise , not a lot of water but enough to remove the residue .
Can the correct procedure be posted , because there will be clubs that probably brush it any old how . many thanks . i await your replys .

You mention brush and Iron but there is no mention of blocking the table. This is a process where you use a towel or more ideally a length of table cloth on the back of a brush and press this down on the table to pick up all the bits of dust and helps keep the nap running in the same direction. Press the cloth or towel down on the table and run it from the baulk cushion to the top cushion in a straight line. Continue this all over the table from one side to the other, you should only iron the table after this, otherwise you are ironing the dust and bits of cloth back into the cloth.

Some people use a damp towel for the same effect which does help get up the dust easier but personally I don't like doing this as I find adding moisture to the cloth slows the table and also creates more chance of bad contacts (kicks).

I'm sure there is a full run down on the tables section on the forum.

I guess they are doing what they should do but not well enough...

If they are leaving bits on the table then more care needs to be taken on brushing it!!

I spend ages brushing a table..... i think they call it OCD

Don't brush to hard as the dust will just go into the air and settle on the table again! Only brush the cushions, DON'T IRON THE CUSHIONS! Check the way the nap runs on the top of the cushion and brush accordingly.

It is better if someone who knows what they are doing shows you how to brush as you will probably understand it better that just through words.
