Correct placement of the pink

Once I saw a lad put the apex Red on the Pink spot and then put the pink as close as possible!

I guess some people get confused because in pool the apex ball gets placed on the spot (if there are two spots).

I was thinking the very same
at my pub there is only the one spot and I see youngsters putting the apex ball on it, not the black!
