  • Snooker balls

Just got my snooker table made up ( which I bought second hand. The balls I have been given with this feel very 'heavy' and are quite discoloured so I am thinking of replacing them.

I've looked over the internet and most of the shops seem to be saying that Aramith Tournament Champion are the best.

    3 questions:
    - Are these good balls to get and worth the money?
    - Would they make any difference to me (a relative beginner)?
    - Would they last me a few years if I splashed out on them?

    Thanks.

I would agree with getting the aramith tournament balls. I found they do take quite a bit of getting used to but are so much more responsive and true to what you do. Good luck!

Aramith Tournament Champion balls are really good, we get given them to play on the match table at rileys and they are alot lighter than the ones you'll have been using, I'd get these.

Tournament Balls are indeed very good, the weight is about 7 grams more compared to the Premier balls. Because of this little difference I'm selling mine. As I play 5 days a week the club allowed me to use the club's tournament balls. If you're interested, don't hesitate to contact me...

Hi Trotsky Can I ask what you eventually did about your balls. I'm looking to buy a set myself just for me and my mate to use at out local club. We're very average players so don't really need top of the range I don't think. Like you I've seen quite a variety on the internet. Cheapest I saw was Powerglide at £29.99. The big problem for me was there seems to be different sizes and I wouldn't want to buy something which was bigger/heavier than normal club balls. It's hard enough already to get the balls into the pockets!!

Don't know your club ball size but the tournament size is 52.4mm.

I can really recomment aramith tournament champion balls. If you can afford them, don't hesitate and get a set. they are a joy to play with!

You get what you pay for normally, get the ones you can afford comfortably.

Unless your club balls are terrible buying anything but tournament balls seems a bit pointless imo. I certainly wouldn't buy anything less than the aramith (can.t remember the name they sell them at craftsman with the tournament champion balls)

Thanks folks. I've more or less made my mind up that I'll buy the Aramith "Premier" balls as opposed to the Aramith "Tournament". I've decided this based firstly on cost as the premier are quite a bit cheaper than the tournament balls. Circa £60 V £90 although there is quite a variation when you check it out on the internet. Secondly I heard that the more expensive tournament balls were great but you didn't get the real benefit unless you used them on good tables with good cloths. The tables in my club are a bit shoddy...slow cloths and very little bounce of the cushions.

Wimm Thanks for your very kind offer. You'll see from my post that I'll probably just go for the "premier" balls at around £60.

I'm on my second set of aramith tournament champion balls within 3 years.
The reason for this is that I wasn’t 100 % happy with the first set and thought it was just my imagination. By chance I brought a set of scales to weigh my cue as I'm in the process of getting a new one made. I decided to weigh the balls and was shocked to find that they were not all the same weight; I thought this odd as they are supposed hand selected. I tried to get aramith to replace them but was unsuccessful. I think I may have brought a bad batch (beware of seconds and imitations). My advice is only buy from an authorized dealers.
PS: I'm very happy with the new set
