  • While the other rounds remain open, here is another Big Ape Break as some people apparently like them.

The full rules are pasted again below, with new bits in red.

Round 261 - Big Ape Break Bonus Pocket Bonanza

On Big Ape Break Bonus Pocket Bonanza, contestants play a frame of snooker, just like any normal frame of snooker except that:

    a) each of the 6 pockets is coloured. The colours of the pockets are:
yellow for the left-centre pocket and then, moving clockwise, blue, brown, green, pink, black - a bit like this:

    0------0
    !.........!
    !.........!
    !.........!
    0------0
    !.........!
    !.........!
    !.........!
    0------0

    b) Once a colour has been potted, the same colour cannot be potted following the next red, nor following the red after that. (Once the 15th red and colour have been potted, this rule no longer applies - the final colours may and must be potted in the usual order of yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, black, regardless of the colours potted with the final reds.)

Example 1: Red Brown Red Yellow Red Blue Red Brown IS allowed
    BUT
Example 2: Red Brown Red Yellow Red Brown IS NOT

Example 3: For the 14th and 15th red,
Red Black Red Yellow Yellow Green Brown Blue Pink Black IS allowed

    c) Whenever a colour has been potted, the following colour cannot be potted into any pocket that lies along the same edge of the table. That means that it cannot be potted into a pocket on the same side of the table (left or right) and, if it is a corner pocket, cannot be potted into a pocket at the same end of the table either.

This applies even when down to the final 6 colours.

For example, after potting a colour into the pink pocket, it would not be permissible to pot the next colour into the pink, green or brown pockets (same side), nor into the black pocket (same end)

    d) None of these rules apply to reds. It makes no difference into which pockets reds are potted. Reds score 1 point no matter where they are potted.

    e) Potting a colour into a pocket of the same colour as the ball (e.g. pink into pink pocket) scores triple points (in this example 3 x 6 = 18). Potting a colour into a pocket of a different colour scores a bonus equal to the value of the pocket. For example, pink into yellow pocket scores 6+2 = 8 points.

What is the highest break (ignoring free balls) you can make?

Please bid directly on the thread.

                  • Very nice abextra! Nice and simple, and a very good bid.

It can still be beaten. We'll close all bidding at 9pm BST tomorrow - and immediately if anyone comes in with the maximum possible bid.

                        • Another quick round while the others remain open...

                          Round 262 - Top scorer

Rupert Beare has accidentally resigned as MC (he meant to say "I am delighted to renew my contract for another year" but in a slip of the tongue it came out as "Shove your job - I quit,") and has now been given a job as scorer in Aberdeen.

He diligently records the break with his computer as Steve Davis makes a total clearance, but at the end of the frame, it becomes apparent that Rupert has made a dreadful mistake. Each time that Davis potted a red, Rupert added 1 point correctly; however, for each colour potted, Rupert accidentally pressed the X (multiply) instead of + (add) button. So he is left with a very big final score indeed!

For example, if Davis had started with red, brown, red, black, the scores should have gone 1, 5, 6, 13... but Rupert would have recorded 1, 4, 5, 35...

In a frantic attempt to cover his mistake, Rupert takes the final score that he has recorded for Davis's break and adds all the digits to get a smaller number. He keeps doing this until he is left with a number of just one digit.

What is the smallest possible number Rupert could be left with?

                          • and also, one more Big Ape Break, while awaiting a bid of 299 for round 261...

Round 263 - Big Ape Break Pocket Bonanza the Second...

Exactly as for round 261 above, the score from each colour potted is equal to the value of the ball plus the value of the pocket - but this time, if they are the same colour, a bonus of 3 points is awarded.

For example, pink into yellow pocket scores 6 + 2 = 8 points, as in round 261.
                            Pink into pink pocket scores 6 + 6 + 3 = 15 points.

Round 264 - Big Ape Break Pocket Bonanza the Third...

Exactly as for round 263 above, but this time the bonus for potting a ball into the pocket of the same colour is 5 points.

For example, pink into yellow pocket scores 6 + 2 = 8 points.
                              Pink into pink pocket scores 6 + 6 + 5 = 17 points.
