The 8th red is the only one which was missed at any point in the frame.

Every time a black was attempted it was succesfully pot.

The score after 14 reds and colours is 55-56.

(super mega clue - think mistakes a referee could make)

Fred breaks off at the start and knocks the yellow into a safe position.
Billy knocks in a long red, takes pink followed by 7 reds and blacks to led 55-0.
He then misses the 8th red and Fred comes to the table and pots 7 reds with blacks
to lead 56-55 with only one red remaining.

He finishes on that red but can only get position on a baulk colour
and the yellow being ackward from the break-off is tough to get on.

So Fred decides its not worth the effort and plays a safety off the black.
Somehow he flukes it and finishes perfect on the yellow, which he pots
as well as green and brown only to miss the blue.

Billy returns to the table 18 points behind with just that value remaining,
pots blue and pink but realising he can only tie the frame
    decides he`s had enough.

    Billy is 55 - Fred 0

Fred is shaken by this dazzling display of wonderful shot making but still manages to hold his nerve and knock in the loose red. He Takes a black and then pots the next 6 reds each with a black.
    Billy is 55 - Fred 56

There is one red left and its up at the baulk end, He manages to get it but can only get position for a baulk colour. He pots the colour and then successfully knock in the next three balls before agonisingly missing the next.
Billy is 55 - Fred is 70 (if brown) or 69 (green) or 68 (yellow)

Billy's mood lifts as a brief glimmer of hope surfaces. He then knocks in the next two balls cleanly.
Billy is 66 - Fred is 70 (if brown) or 69 (green) or 68 (yellow)

Oh dear, his head is in his hands the frame is over.
Why? What was the final score?
After potting the pink the cue ball comes touching the black. Billy cannot pot it, he must move away and leaves a nice easy shot for Fred who pots it. so 66-77 (or 76 or 75)

Really hope I got that right.

How does that square with "He then takes the next 6 reds with blacks"?

Billy leads 48-0, having potted the 7th red without a black after (red-pink, 5× red-black and the extra red).

48-70 (if brown – could be 48-69 or 48-68 if green or yellow)

Final score is 59-70 or 59-69 or 59-68 depending on baulk colour as above. Billy is between 9 and 11 behind with only black left.

Same question as above ... pot or hit?

Does "get" it mean hit it or pot it?

Might he have potted more than one red in a single stroke?

Perhaps missing making any contact with the red, thus giving away 4 points.

    Perhaps the brown.

...which could now be blue and pink.

Billy now 66-74 behind - so 8 points behind with only black left and he has lost the frame.

The frame was over because he potted the pink when he needed a snooker and he had left just the black on the table????
