Not Sure! They had to re-organise the tournamnet half-way through??! Going to sound very far-fetched... strange to go from 4 venues to 1?

I'd guess at fewer tables, so less time to complete the frames? Were matches shortened so that the tournament finished on schedule?

The Dulux British Open, 1985 - which essentially superseded the Yamaha International - is I believe unique among ranking events in that the length of matches went down a stage between rounds.

The qualifiers and the last 64 (where the top seeds entered) were best of 11, but the last 32, last 16 and quarter-finals were only best of 9.

My question is ... why?

Is it something to do with aggregated scores? Maybe for some reason () the desired score to win required less frames as the tournament progressed?

EDIT - I've just racked my memory from when I was 2 years old :-p The last 64 and the qualifiers where played at one of 4 venues?

ROUND THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-FIVE

I am looking for the names of two players, one a Canadian who has played at the Crucible, the other a player now better known for off-table reasons.

The Canadian came close to making a 147 break in the 1980s and would have been only the second to do so in a ranking event. He missed the brown after leaving himself too close to the side cushion. The other person I'm looking for was his opponent in that match.

I need BOTH names in the SAME post, for the point!
