Even if 396 is the right answer you won't get the point Paul.

    Chasmmi already guessed on 396.

If its 396 he will say, its wrong, cause he knows I wont do a recount!

Actually, he is too honest to misbehave like that!

Its all on here, on the forum, on Statmans' Stat section. Its a coniving way of his Lordship to force us to read all the qualifiers!

I will, but not now. Something for long winter evenings. Therefore I guess 396!

The question is, the total for EACH year.

So add up the figures for EACH year, basically it is, how many rounds have there been in all 30 years combined? [the greatest number of matches a player could have needed to win the title, each year.]

no idea and this will take too long to research but i would guess at its peak in the late 90's it got as high as 20

    5 prelims
    10 quals
    5 tv

    probably way off though

    ROUND SIXTY-THREE

(I'm not sure that's the right figure, but it is according to the scoreboard!)

Assuming that, in every Crucible year, the champion had played in the very earliest possible qualifying round and made his way through the whole drawsheet to win the title, what is the total number of matches that would have been played by the Crucible champions in the year they won?

    Found it!

The 1974 Pot Black final, which was played over two frames' aggregate score, was won by Graham Miles by the score of 147-86 (against John Spencer).

This was the only Pot Black to be two frames' aggregate, the others between 1969 and 1977 being one frame, after which it was simple best-of-three.
