I'm sure it's a potato now as one clue was chip on shoulder and another one was musorebut munalos which is solanum tuberosum reversed (perhaps a Latin word for potato) and also the name of poisoning you get from eating some raw potatoes.

Were they playng with a hard-boiled egg instead of a regulation cue ball? It wouldn't have rolled in a straight line & that's why it took so long.
