He missed the 13th red, and while he was missing his 147 attempt Ali Carter on the other table was on a break which turned out to be a 144 (including a magnificent yellow fired in a top pocket from its spot with the white tight on the baulk cushion – do see it if you get a chance) and denied Maguire the ten grand!

Maguire made the 143 on May 1, against Hamilton, and in May 2 in the same match he had a posibility of a maximum, while at the other table Carter was on the 144 break. Carter made the break while Maguires attempt broke on 96.
